Another soulslike crawls from the digital muck, hoping to feast on the remaining scraps of our patience. This time, it’s AI Limit, and frankly, the limit should have been set much, much lower. Thirty hours Northup spent battling crashes more than bosses – a grim statistic, even for 2024.
The premise? Something sci-fi. Robots, probably. Swords, definitely. The story? Non-existent, or at least, aggressively forgettable. Northup couldn’t even recall boss names, which, let’s be honest, says everything. Were they challenging? Nah. Were they memorable? Absolutely not. Did they drop loot? Probably something marginally useful that was immediately replaced by something else equally forgettable. The circle of soulslike.
AI Limit does attempt innovation. A ‘Sync Rate’ system! Swappable abilities! Exciting, right? Wrong. These are mere window dressing on a fundamentally flawed foundation. Think of it as putting racing stripes on a Yugo – it might look a little faster, but it’s still a Yugo. The art style, apparently, is ‘stylish.’ If your definition of stylish includes a generous helping of bland corridors and repetitive enemy designs, then sure, stylish. For the rest of us, it’s just… there.
Northup suggests that if you’re desperate for a soulslike fix, AI Limit might be an option. But let’s be real, are you that desperate? There’s a reason Elden Ring is still getting played, and it’s not just because it’s got a big open world. It’s because it’s good. AI Limit is not good.
The crashes alone should be a red flag the size of a small country. Spending more time troubleshooting than actually playing is never a good sign. It’s like buying a fancy car that spends more time in the shop than on the road. You’ll quickly regret your purchase.
So, should you play AI Limit? Unless you’re being paid to, or have a pathological need to punish yourself, the answer is a resounding no. There are far better ways to spend your time and money. Go replay Dark Souls. Read a book. Learn to knit. Anything is better than slogging through 30 hours of mediocre soulslike action that AI Limit offers. You’ve been warned.
